The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association announced a newly sanctioned bull riding event this summer at Cheyenne Frontier Days.
For the first time in its history, “The Daddy of ‘Em All” hosts a stop on the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour with two evening performances on July 21-22.
Standalone bull riding events are nothing new at “The Dad” in Cheyenne, as PBR was part of the night show lineup in previous years.
Last year PBR had their “Last Cowboy Standing” tournament over two nights in Cheyenne. The prior year the PBR night shows kicked off the team season. This year PBR is not running an event as part of Frontier Days for the first time in years.
Xtreme Bulls replaces PBR in the nighttime lineup at Cheyenne, with PRCA promising $75,000 in added money for the two-night event.
“Having Cheyenne be a part of the PRCA’s Xtreme Bulls Tour is a great addition to our tour,” PRCA CEO Tom Glause said in a press release. “Cheyenne has a storied tradition with the PRCA, and now we can spotlight the PRCA’s top bull riders at this Xtreme Bulls event.”
The format for Xtreme Bulls at CFD features the top 40 bull rider and two full rounds. The long rounds are over two nights, with a round each night. The highest combined score wins the event title.
The joint announcement on Xtreme Bulls at Cheyenne precedes the reveal of the music lineup for the other CFD night shows. An announcement of the music lineup will likely come in early March.
